FULCANELLI is built around an absence. The legendary alchemist Fulcanelli - real historical figure, documented works, unresolved disappearance - is the black hole around which the entire life of his only disciple, Eugène Canseliet, revolves. As that disciple, Canseliet has sacrificed everything, his marriage, his sanity, his humanity, in pursuit of the Philosopher's Stone, convinced that immortality lies just one experiment away. When he finally holds eternal life in his hands, he must answer the question that defines us all: is our mortality a flaw to be corrected, or the very thing that makes us human?

Set across three European cities and three decades, FULCANELLI mirrors the three stages of the alchemical Great Work (Magnum Opus). In Paris, 1922 (Nigredo), Canseliet descends into obsession, loses his wife Isabelle, and, through charming fixer Champagne, sells his secrets to a proto-CIA operative named Morgan, cold, ruthless, and herself a product of the same system she enforces. In the Swiss Alps, 1938 (Albedo), imprisoned in a clandestine facility alongside the Italian disappeared physicist Ettore Majorana, he discovers his research is being weaponized for the atomic bomb. In Seville, 1948 (Rubedo), he finally encounters the transformed Fulcanelli, accompanied by Kiki, a girl from the Paris streets whose journey through fire and radiation has made her the Master's true heir, and must choose between immortality and love.

In an age of Silicon Valley longevity research, genetic editing, and AI-promised transcendence, FULCANELLI is a defiant argument for remaining gloriously, tragically mortal, not because mortality is noble, but because to be human is to choose wrong and understand only too late. Its devastating final image says everything: a man shatters the elixir of eternal life on the ground, not as an act of heroism, but of love. And the world is reborn.

Approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, with two intervals. Six principal performers plus ensemble. Score ranging from gothic orchestration to symphonic rock, Sondheim's intellectual complexity meets Muse's visceral intensity. Scalable from regional houses to major commercial venues. All dialogue and lyrics in English, fully composed and musically tested.

For audiences who made Hadestown, Sweeney Todd, Elisabeth, Jekyll & Hyde and Phantom of the Opera enduring works. For a marketplace that has forgotten what an original story feels like.

The world of FULCANELLI extends beyond the stage: a companion novel, retelling the same story in prose, is complete and awaiting publication.

⚠️ This is a work of fiction. While partly inspired by real historical figures and events, all characters, dialogue, and situations depicted are entirely imaginary. No representation of facts that never actually occurred, or of real persons, living or dead, is intended or should be inferred.
